When I got in touch with you at the end of May (Tel No 703 of 31st May) I was worried 'that the coming together of the CAA decision on the London/Hong Kong air route, the raising of university fees, and the White Paper on Nationality were producing an atmosphere of disillusionment that would be a bad lead-in to unpalatable decisions on either Defence Costs or the MFA.

Many thanks for what you and the Office and of course the Secretary of State and his Ministers have done. Things are now much improved.
