vital factor fares are kept low. Much was made by CPA of the lack of hotels in Hong Kong to cope with such an influx and this is a factor to be considered in relation to the short term but more hotels are being built and the long-term prospects for this class of tourism clearly are good. Much will also no doubt depend on the availability of hotels and other tourist facilities in China as a great number of package tourists will no doubt want to go there during the course of their stay in the East.

Sir Freddie Laker again stressed, as he did last November, that he could offer the tour operators an air- craft entirely dedicated to the low-fare market which the other carriers did not. Finally he said he would sell more seats than the others simply because he was Laker, a name synonymous with low-fare travel and people would be attracted to him as the renowned low-fare operator even if in fact his fares were not the lowest.

Mr. Ugo of Carousel Holidays for instance, apart from thinking that Tsim Sha Tsui was in the "more out-lying areas" seemed to be unaware that BA was no longer the only airline on the route. He makes no reference at all to BCal or CPA. Mr. Mori, from Japan, said that low fares would enable him to sell tours to Europe in Japan. Clearly the fare level was the critical factor and it would
not matter much who offered it. He was aware from inquiries made in Tokyo that BCal and CPA were offering such low fares. Mr. Howe from Taiwan also said he was after cheap fares,
considered Laker could under-cut his rivals but had in fact
made no inquiries as to present availability.
