APPLICATIONS TO OPERATE SCHEDULED
SERVICES BETWEEN HONG KONG AND
LONDON AND VICE VERSA
A. Preliminary
1.
In accordance with Regulation 6 of the Air Transport (Licensing of Air Services) Regulations, an application was made to the Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) to operate a scheduled service between Hong Kong and London and vice versa by
Laker Airways Limited, a company registered in Jersey, Channel Islands, on 23rd June 1980.
Applications were also received from :

British Caledonian Airways Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom, on 26th June 1980; and
Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong, on 8th July 1980,
to remove frequency restrictions attached to existing licences to operate the same route which were granted in November 1979. All three applications were endorsed by the Director of Civil Aviation as satisfactory with respect to operational procedures, maintenance manual and schedule, traffic handling and the adequacy and com- petence of the staff to be employed. Particulars of all applications, as required under Regulation 7, were published in the Government Gazette.

Within the prescribed period of 14 days of publication, objections were lodged to all three appli- cations by British Airways Board (BA) and by the appli- cants themselves to each other's application. In addition, representations on all three applications were received from the Hong Kong Government. All these objections or representations were considered as having
