CIVIL AVIATION: THE LONDON TO HONG KONG ROUTE

1.

Mr Adrian Swire telephoned Mr Blaker this after- noon. He said that Cathay Pacific were shaken and upset by the CAA decision. Mr Swire asked Mr Blaker if there was anything which he thought the Swire Group should do. He had just signed off a letter to Mr Bray which he was copying to Mr Cortazzi.

The Swire Group would be lobbying all their friends. Mr Swire said he supposed that this battle would have to be fought through the usual channels involving the CAA and the Department of Trade. They definitely intended to appeal against the CAA's decision not to license Cathay Pacific on the London-Hong Kong route. The Swire Group were very aggrieved indeed over this decision. Mr Blaker said that it was difficult for him to advise as he was not briefed on the details of the case. Cathay Pacific were right to appeal. Mr Blaker said he did not think there was much else he could say at the moment but he would look at Mr Swire's letter to Mr Bray.
