The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs presents his compliments to the Clerk of the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments and begs to transmit herewith, to be laid before the Joint Committee, twenty-two copies of Statutory Instrument 1979 No. 1706, entitled the Merchant Shipping (Metrication) (Hong Kong) Order 1979, which was laid before Parliament on

3 January 1980 under arrangements made by the Clerk of the Privy Council.

This instrument was made under the provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970. Section 101 of this Act provides that it should be construed as one with the Merchant Shipping Act of 1894, section 738(2) of which when read in conjunction with section 4(3) of the Statutory Instrument Act 1946, provides that such an Order shall be laid before Parliament, but does not prescribe any further Parliamentary procedures.
