KMB's Fare Application

The proposed scale of fares for KMB and a route-by-route proposed adjustment of existing fares are at Annex C. These proposals are acceptable to the Commissioner for Transport, their, basis being as follows:

On urban routes in Kowloon and Tsuen Wan/Kwai Chung, where existing fares, which have been unchanged since 1971, range from 20 cents to 50 cents, the proposed fares would range from 30 cents to $1,00, with an average increase of about 70%;

On rural routes in the New Territories, where existing fares, which have been unchanged since 1973, range from 20 cents to $1.50, the proposed fares would range from 30 cents to $2.00, with an average increase of about 50%;
Express coach fares would rise by about 50% and fares on recreational routes by about 100%, under the proposals;
On cross-harbour routes, where existing fares, which have been unchanged since 1972, range from $1.00 to $2.00, the proposed fares would be $1.50, $2.00, $2.50 and $3,00, an average increase of 50%; and
Fares on special services to Sha Tin Race-course would remain unchanged at $5.00, the fare set in October 1978,
In support of its application, KMB drew attention to a number of measures it is taking which will improve services but
add to costs. Over the four years from mid-1979, the Company intends to:
