PROJECTS AND EXPORT PROMOTION DIVISION (PEP), DEPARTMENT OF TRADE

1.

I attended a presentation on the work of this Division on 9 December. The organisation has only been operating since July but it will certainly become more active and we should try to keep in close touch with appropriate members on Hong Kong projects which are likely to form the main part of its work.

2. Under Mr Benjamin, the Under-Secretary, the following are the Heads of the various Sections:

a) Mr Durie - PEP1 - Transport (including railway and

airport projects);

b) Mr Mathrani

PEP2 Power generation, Mining, etc.;

c) Mr Khanna

-

PEP3

-

Telecommunications, Housing, Construction;

d) Mr Milton PEP 4 Petroleum and Gas Projects.

3. In the immediate future we are likely to have most to do with PEP1. In practice Hong Kong power generation projects and the Guangdong Nuclear Project have been delegated from PEP to the DOI with whom we are already in touch.

4.

I would be grateful if Hong Kong Section could keep in close touch with the relevant sections of the PEP, making clear our contacts with the Hong Kong Government and ensuring that we are brought in where necessary if any problems arise.
