Visits
The Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress, LIAO Cheng-zhi (para 1, May 1980 Report) left Hong Kong on 15 June after a stay of almost a month. Ostensibly he was in Hong Kong to recuperate; he and his wife spent much of the time in sightseeing and being entertained by old acquaintances, many of whom are wealthy residents. Despite this, his visit was not reported by

the press until after his departure.

Hong Kong's Director of Trade visited Peking and Shanghai, at the invitation of the China Textile Import and Export Corporation, for discussions on the technical aspects of certification of origin, quotas and the international
textile trade.

The First Director of the Hong Kong Branch of the NCNA, WANG Kuang, left Hong Kong on a three-week goodwill visit to the Federal Republic of Germany This is the first and France, having been invited by the Governments concerned. occasion during his time in office that WANG has gone overseas, an indication of the greater degree of freedom now being exercised by senior cadres.

The establishment of the Office was agreed by the Hong Kong Government in 1979 when it opens in July, its function will be the issue of visas to persons wishing to visit China.
