You will wish to see a letter from the Political Adviser on New Territories leases and the record of a meeting between the Governor and Sir Percy Cradock, largely on this subject.

2. In his minute of 2 December, Mr Clift reported the formula 15 decided on for Mr Akers-Jones' approach to China Resources on

leasing Tin Shui Wai beyond 1997. As you will see from

Dr Wilson's letter, China Resources have themselves mooted, though through a third party, the idea of a 75 year lease, and the Secretary for the New Territories used this pretext to broach the matter on 1 December. The outcome was rather inconclusive,

but I agree with Dr Wilson that the options are now on record with the Chinese. We must wait and see what emerges.
