WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION TO BE RAISED

Sing Tao Jih Pao (16.6.80) LegCo should pass the amendment bill regarding workmen's compensation as soon as possible. In future, such compensation should be paid out to workers quickly. However, government should put more effort into preventing the occurrence of industrial accidenta.

Tin Tin Daily News (15.6,80): The workers would not be satisfied with the proposed changes in compensation. There should be a compulsory insurance schome and an emergency relief fund for them.

DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION GREEN PAFER

Wen Wei Pao (14.6.80): Public reaction to the green paper is generally good. The proposals are not constitutional reforms. And there will be no change in the status of the Executive, Legislative and Urban Councils. This is a principle for maintaining .. stability in HK and the government needs to consider the internal and external situations.

Extending the franchise for voters would be

STRENGTHEN CONTROL OVER BANKS AND FINANCE COMPANIES

Wah Kiu Yat Po (16.6.80): The authorities are trying to tighten up control over banks and deposit- taking companies by asking them to set up incorporated associations. But it should also introduce legislation to supervise the activities of representative offices of foreign banks.
