Q. There have been some rumours and very persistent rumours that there
is a list of senior civil servants who are homosexuals, Sir have you yourself seen this list and if such a list exists would you ask for the Police to supply you with it?
A.I have seen no such list, if it's relevant to Judge Yang's inquiries
he will see it.
Q. Do you know whether a list exists or not?
A. No, I don't.
Q. Would you approve of such a list existing?
A. I think that probably if the Police were required to undertake
detailed investigation into homosexual acts with young boys or
which is much more important in the procurers it is conceivable
that they would have to have such a list. So I would not disapprove
No.
It would seem to me to be a rather natural thing to exist
in the course of such investigations.
Whether it would be a
series of files is rather a different matter.
What would be the relevance of the implications of a person's name being on that list of course is an entirely different matter. Because this is an area in which there is so much gossip and allegation it is very difficult to give an opinion.
Q. Sir Murray there have been suggestions one from Elsie Elliott
that an inquiry should come from the UK nothing to do with the Hong Kong Government. Do you think that might have been a better
idea?
A. Obviously I don't and that's why I appointed Judge Yang, whose
appointment I notice has been welcomed.
