LORD CARRINGTON'S VISIT TO THE FAR EAST: ANNOUNCEMENT,

TO BE MADE ON TUESDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER

After his customary visit to New York for the UN General

Assembly, from 22 to 25 September, the Secretary of State

for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs will make an official

visit to Hong Kong, Japan and China between 26 September

and 6 October. He will have discussions with the Governor

in Hong Kong: in Tokyo, he will have ministerial

consultations with the Japanese Foreign Minister: and in

Peking he will have talks with Chinese leaders on current

international and bilateral issues. Lord Carrington will

be accompanied by Lady Carrington.
