FAMILIARISATION VISITS
1.
M. Quinghill N Will infor
5.1411 J14.1
I would like to arrange a familiarisation visit to a number of countries in Asia in February and March. The tour was authorised when I took up my appointment as Asian Regional Director in Research Department in 1978 and has been discussed with the relevant geographical departments. Its purpose would be to meet local contacts among academics, journalists and members of friendly missions, talk to staff at the post and to see something of the local situa- tion on the ground. It will be my first visit to the area. If a visit is acceptable in principle I will follow up with more detailed proposals about contacts and subjects for discussion while welcoming your guidance on the contents of a useful itinerary.
2.
My proposed timetable is as follows:
Dep. London 16 February - Arrive Rawlpindi 17 February
Dep. Karachi for Bombay 21 February
Dep. Bombay for Delhi 25 February
Dep. Delhi for Bangkok 2 March
Dep. Singapore for Hong Kong 10 March
Dep. Bangkok for Singapore 6 March
Dep. Hong Kong for Peking 13 March
Dep. Peking for Tokyo 20 March
3.
Dep. Tokyo for Seoul 26 March
Dep. Seoul for Washington 1 April.
Please would you let me know if these dates are acceptable in order that detailed preparations can be put inhhand?
