App IV
OUTERWEAR
The 'outerwear' sector is very heterogeneous and covers a wide variety of products of varying quality. This Appendix is confined to the quality end of the outerwear sector.

It is estimated that each year Hong Kong uses in total about 20 m sq meters of quality T/C and nylon fabrics, including stretch material for the production of quality ski jackets, overalls, anoraks and coats. These fabrics are not produced in Hong Kong. They are imported mainly from Japan, USA and the Federal Republic of Germany.
3 This sector buys a lot of T/C chintz, T/C poplin and stretch material from Japan, because of its proximity to Hong Kong. But it also buys from the USA and the Federal Republic of Germany. Buyers are very quality conscious. Although they do not stipulate where fabrics are purchased, they do point the outerwear manufacturers in the direction of Japan, FRG
and USA.

If these quality fabrics are also produced in the UK, this industry would like to consider UK as an additional source of supply. However, there is no UK sales office in Hong Kong at which to make enquiries.
