BRIEF 11
HONG KONG ISLAND/KOWLOON LINK
17
The Hong Kong Government recently awarded a study on alternatives for linking Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, to Mott, Hay and Anderson (Far East) with Wilber Smith Associates.
18
Options are reported to include:- bridges; tunnel; an increase in Cross Harbour ferry services and expansion of existing
tunnel.
19 The study should be submitted by spring 1981.
CHEP-LAP-KOK AIRPORT
20
On the recommendation of the Civil Aviation Director (CAD) the Hong Kong Government have accepted a consultants report outlining plans for a replacement airport; though a final decision on whether to build the airport is unlikely to be made before 1982, the Hong Kong Government is preparing to spend HK$150million on detailed design studies including civil engineering investigations.
21
Parsons Overseas Company of Pasadena in association with Wilber Smith and Associates, the Gollins Melvin Ward Partnership
(architects) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority undertook the engineering feasibility study.
22
It is envisaged that the next phase, involving studies for master planning, environmental impact and economic and financial will be subject to open tendering though a negotiated contract cannot yet be completely ruled out. Parsons appear well placed in either event having undertaken the intial study; the UK CAA
have confirmed their association with Parsons though, on a non- exclusive basis whereby they could also assist other British interests if needbe.
