NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES
REFORM OF HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
1.
My honourable Friend discussed this subject with the
Governor of Hong Kong on the 11th of January.
The matter is still under consideration.
[If pressed]
DISCUSSIONS WITH CHAIRMAN HUA GUOFENG ON THE NEW TERRITORIES
LEASE AND THE FUTURE OF HONG KONG
I would refer the honourable Gentleman to the replies given
by my right honourable Friend, the Prime Minister, on the 4th of December 1979 As she explained, although there was no dis-
cussion of the New Territories Lease as such, both sides
recognised that we shared an interest in maintaining the
stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.
PUBLIC HOUSING
3. It is the Hong Kong Government's policy to provide decent
housing at a fair rent for all those who need it. The arrival of over 280,000 immigrants from China in the past two years has
greatly complicated this task.
