With reference to our recent telephone conversation, I confirm that our Minister of State, Mr Butler would like to meet the Governor of Hong Kong to discuss Cable and Wireless matters when the latter comes to London next month for official consultations. Mr Butler's office have indicated that 6 or 7 August would be preferable and you thought that 7 August would be the most likely date.

You mentioned that the Governor would be coming in early next week to arrange a programme. I should be grateful if this meeting could be fitted in and if you could let me know in due course the suggested time. I ought perhaps to mention that Mr Butler has a lunch engagement on 7 August which is expected to occupy him from noon to about 2.30pm.
