The Secretary for Economic Services

(Mr D.G. JEAFFRESON) attended for consideration

of this paper. The Governor explained the recent diplomatic developments in the Iranian

crisis. He said that the Foreign and Common-

wealth Office had informed him that the

Iranian Consulate in Manchester was to be

: closed and that consideration was being

given to closing the Consulate in Hong

Kong. The Governor said that, in response to the latter point,it had been suggested

to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

that the Consulate in Hong Kong should

not be closed, but should be reduced to

a minimum. This would save embarrassment
