Hong Kong is a small place and it has not a single treasure.

prosperity that has been achieved is due to its delicate. position between

the East and the West which has attracted foreign investment from consortia

of various countries. The ingenuity and wisdom of the people of Hong

Kong have also helped achieve this prosperity.

Hong Kong's Special Political Environment

Russia has become the number one enemy in the eyes of Communist China

because of her expansionist policy. Communist China has not only

criticised Russia fiercely for invading Afghanistan, she has also suspended

unilaterally the talks at the border. Relations between China and Russia

are deteriorating and so far there has been no sign of any improvement.

The more strained the Sino-Russian relations are, the more beneficial it

is for Hong Kong's future. This is Hong Kong's special political environment

which is generally expected to be able to remain until the end of this

century, leaving Hong Kong to continue to enjoy prosperity and stability

for twenty years. The only pre-requisite is the absence of war (apart

from wars of limited scale in certain regions). However, there are only

17 years to go before the Kowloon New Territories Lease expires in 1997.
