in Beijing for Hong Kong Government aircraft to fly into China for the purpose. A helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft of the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force were used: both flew to Guangzhou, where the helicopter took on board a CAAC navigator and an interpreter and flew on to pick up the patient. On return to Guangzhou, the latter was transferred from the helicopter to the fixed-wing aircraft, which flew him under the care of a British Forces medical team back to Hong Kong, where the aircraft landed some five and a half hours after having left. Unfortunately he subsequently died but his family arrived from America in time to see him before his death. The Chinese authorities were most co-operative throughout. This is the first time that RHKAAF aircraft have made such a flight into China.
Banking and Commerce
The CPG controlled Chiyu Banking Corporation in Hong Kong (para 5, June 1980 Report) has openly conducted several t: ansactions with banks in Taiwan, chiefly in connection with imports from Taiwan to China.

The Bank of China's Head Office has approved the application for status as a corresponding bank by the CCIC Finance Ltd., the deposit-taking company set up and registered in Hong Kong by the Bank of China, the First National Bank of Chicago, the Industrial Bank of Japan and the China Resources Co. (Para 2, April 1980 Report). The company has announced that it is to act as a joint lead manager in a US$42 m. syndicated loan to finance
the building of a 1200-room hotel in Guangzhou.

Officials in Beijing are concerned about the lack of co-ordination between the many official and semi-official delegations visiting Hong Kong from China; they believe that this has resulted in a market flooded with Chinese
goods at artificially low prices.
