INCIDENT IN DEEP BAY
In wrapping up yesterday's incident in Deep Bay
I thought I should say that it was very helpful that you checked with us about the MOD's planned news release so that we could suggest keeping what was said to the minimum.
2.
One point arose out of this. If such incidents recur, you might find it difficult to get hold of either Iain Orr or myself, particularly at night. One sure way of finding us is to contact the Communications Office here. Their direct telephone number is Hong Kong 228896. They can also be contacted through the FCO Communicators.
3.
In addition, you might find it helpful to keep on record the telephone numbers of the two central operations rooms which we use in incidents of this sort and where either I or the APA would usually be if anything serious was happening. The two centres are:
(a)
Colony POLMIL:
Tel Hong Kong 277727 OR
11
11
11 234016 OR
284284 Ext 400
(b)
Colony MARPOL:
Tel Kowloon 665827 OR Colony POLMIL can patch you through if that number is not available.
(a) would be used in an incident involving either the Police alone or all the security services. (b) is used when only the Navy and Marine Police are involved and was, for instance, the centre from which we operated yesterday.
