SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN

1.

The UK informs its partners that the Orders which will apply sanctions against Iran will be approved on 29 May and will enter into effect on midnight that day. For the information of other Member States, the texts are being circulated separately.

2. In view of the fact that several other Member States are not giving effect to the provision in the Security Council Draft Resolution concerning the banning of service contracts, the UK will not be applying any prohibition either. The UK Orders will be debated in Parliament next week. The UK requests its partners to furnish it with copies of the final decrees issued by its partners, togethe with any supporting ministerial instructions, to assist UK Ministers in ensuring Parliamentary approval for the UK Orders.
