Dear Torrice

SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN

N

BBR

де

Please refer to FCO telegram number 84 of 29 May to Hamilton.

Since there never have been exports from Pitcairn to Iran

and little real prospect there ever will be- I wonder whether any useful purpose will be served by enacting legislation to prohibit such trade. While recognising there may be reasons other than practical ones for introducing sanctions against Iran it seems somewhat purposeless to embark on an exercise to prohibit something which is unlikely ever to exist.

My reluctance to take this matter further without specific instructions to do so is founded also on the principle observed in this Adminis tration that laws should not be enacted or applied in Pitcairn for which there is no actual necessity within the foreseeable future.

I shall let the matter rest pending your reply.

Your

ever
