As a result of these indictments, Mr Nott announced his intention to review the Government's attitude towards cooperation with the United States on antitrust matters and on the enforcement

of some US judgements in the United Kingdom. (See Notes to Editors 3).

The second example involves the British company Rio Tinto-Zinc which, along other uranium suppliers, is facing a treble damages anti-trust suit brought by the power engineering company Westinghouse in the US courts. In the British Government's opinion, the US courts do not have jurisdiction over the case in so far as it relates to the activities of the non-US producers outside the US. RTZ have not appeared in the case (see Notes to

Editors 7).

The Protection of Trading Interests Bill is also designed to cover the excessive exercise of US jurisdiction in fields other than anti-trust law. A number of departments and regulatory agencies of the US Administration periodically seek to assert their jurisdiction outside of US territory.
