The British Antarctic Territory is administered by a High Commissioner appointed by Her Majesty The Queen. He has the power subject to the usual disallowance procedure, to make regulations for the peace, order, and good government of the Territory to establish courts of justice and, on Her Majesty's behalf, to grant pardon and clemency. At each research station, The Station Commander is appointed by The High Commissioner as a magistrate.
