$59,000.00 (16 years ago private factory building was sold at about $20.00
to $24.00 per sq. ft. only). The Resettlement Department allotted to each
factory an average of only 768 sq. ft., which if regarded as a gift to us
free of charge would mean a compensation of only one-tenth of our loss.
But rent still has to be paid. Such explitation can only be put up with
by the Chinese.
8. The transferee ought to have "right for resettling property".
For the past 18 years the Resettlement Department is always
taking the transferees and the original resettlers as having the same
status, because the transferees purchased the rights of resettling
properties with money, and the small-scale industrialists are almost all
workers by origin, whose savings for half of their lives only amount to
some tens of thousands of dollars, and some even have to raise capital
by negotiating for loans. Acquisition by transferees of the rights of
resettlement property should not be doubted and the Resettlement Depart-
ment should in no way try to swallow them up bit by bit by installments.
