ambiguous as to fool us and the public. For instance, the spokesman of Tsuen Wan District offices, Mr. Lam, said that the compensation of the seven buildings at Sai Lau Kok was calculated on the basis of net area. But in recommending us to buy flats from Allway Gardens, he just men- tioned area without the word "net" which in fact, quoted by Mr. Lam, was "construction area".
Originally, the idea of "flat-for-flat" and "shop-for-shop" was a perfect idea. However, the most unfair deal is the differences in the prices in the valuation of our buildings which is a very serious and real problem. The compensatory price for our flats by Government is about HK$310.00 per sq. ft. calculated at construction area. The selling prices at Allway Gardens was HK$410.00 per sq. ft. a difference of HK$100.00 per sq. ft. The compensation given to the shop owners is even worse. It is only about HK$600.00 per sq. ft., one quarter of the price of any other shops in Tsuen Wan. In order words, if we accept the present conditions given by Government, each of us had to shoulder a big burden.
We are all law-abiding citizens hoping to live happily. We have no inten- tion to cause any trouble to Government. It is only under the conditions of being forced to evacuate that we strive to defend our reasonable rights. Therefore in normal conditions, we do not want to take any radical actions. But under the great and continuous suppression of Government, we have learnt to unite together to voice out our grievances unanimously "We swear not to evacuate until reasonable compensation is obtained”. Time, solidarity and perseverance are the best proofs. We just invite Government to wait and see.
We are not vendors who must to sell their buildings. If Government really had the sincerity to solve the problem through negotiation, it would be simple enough to set up a special negotiation team or committee to deal with the seven buildings at Sai Lau Kok which could represent the appropriate departments concerned in decision and in direct solution of all matters with full power. We do not want to waste any more time to repeat the process of being fooled around by the different departments in the past year. We don't want to see another swindle of "flat-for-flat” and "shop-for-shop" which not only deceives us but also the clever citizens of Hong Kong.
We are all "small and humble property owners" at Sai Lau Kok. Most of
