for us, but came up against a brick wall in the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. As that was a long time ago, it is possible that views have changed and I have therefore reopened the question with the Austrian Consul General (a copy of my letter is enclosed) and anything you can do to persuade the Austrians to change their minds will be much appreciated.
The main stumbling block appears to have been the cost of repatriation of undesirables direct to Hong Kong. This point also worried the Dutch at one stage, but in practice, they do not seem to find it a major problem, partly because the numbers are not unmanageable and partly because the Dutch Police seem to be able to persuade most of the persons being repatriated to pay for their own fares (presumably they do this to avoid the risk of formal deportation procedures). I therefore hope that the Austrians also can be persuaded that this difficulty is not so serious as it may appear at first sight.
