6. Section 7, in amending section 58 of the Immigration Ordinance, removes the restriction on the size of ships liable to be searched, seized and detained by officers in command of Her Majesty's warships, and extends those powers (and the power to detain persons on board) to officers in command of Her Majesty's auxiliary ships. These powers are necessary in view of the number and size of vessels carrying refugees now enter- ing Hong Kong waters.
7. Before the Acting Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, I advised that he could properly do so.
