Short title.
A BILL
To
Amend the Immigration Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the
advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the
Immigration (Amendment) Ordinance 1979.
Amendment of section 18. (Cap. 115.)

Section 18 of the principal Ordinance is
amended by inserting after subsection (2) the following
subsections
#(3)
Subsection (2) shall not apply if
it appears to the Director that the person
refused permission to land was previously
resident in Vietnam.
(4) Subsection (3) shall expire on 31st
December 1979 unless the Legislative Council
by resolution otherwise determines.".
Explanatory Memorandum
Section 18(2) of the Immigration Ordinance
restricts to a period of 2 months the power of an
immigration officer to remove from Hong Kong a person
who is refused permission to land. Under prevailing
