After arrival at Kowloon
Soon after the inauguration of through train, whenever the train crosses the border at Lowu, some comrades heart beat very fast. They behold numberous high-rising buildings adjacent to one another. The 3- dimensional high ways are full of cars; passengers waiting at Kowloon station platforms are all neatly dressed, and are carrying T.V. sets, tape- recorders, cameras of all brands
Faced with all these, some comrades are sceptical about mary things, one of which being the right attitude towards capitalist societies.
These psychology problems were discovered by Comrade WONG Kwei-yin, Captain of Guangzhou-Kowloon Train. Therefore this politically sensitive comrade WONG began to ponder this question: How to unify the ideological aspects towards the situation, so as to make her staff of the CK Group 2 retain the glorious tradition? She then raised this problem with the Farty branch comrades of the train and her train guards, and also based on her own experience and ideological work, she suggested to study and to analyse the society of H.K. through their daily duties. Her suggestion was favourably received and subsequent discussions were held to know H.K. through typical analysis.
At such discussions, comrades were keen to speak up. At one of the discussions, a female crew member related the following incident :- a KCR train guard always in his imprccable uniform, and smoking expensive cigarettes deliberately threw away unfinished packets c cigarettes on the dining table after he had finished his lunch on the through train. At the out-set, crew members did not like his attitude. One day, this KCR came on duty on the train despite his illness. Knowing that, train crews of the dining car specially made a bow of noodle for him. He was so touched by this, his eyes shed tears, at long last spoke the truth: In his tens of years with K.C.R., he has never been treated so considerably before. "Do not misled by his generous attitude and imprecable appearance, he has to pay $1200 as rents for his housing out of his 2000-odd monthly salary; in actual fact his household budget is very tight", he added. Then our comrades asked him, since his financial situation was not sound, why did he always throw away cigarettes? He said, in E.K., money was everything, if He did not behave in that way, people would think he was poor and would look down up him.
Train Guard, WU Yuan-chu told another story during cae of these meetings One day, a female K.C.H. ticket inspector was carrying out her duties on the train, all of a sudden, came several rascals who tried to bully her, she was frightened, but dared not fight back. Seeing that, WU Yuan-chu came to her rescue and solemnly raid to the rascale, "his is a people's train, you are definitely not allowed to misbehave on it." The gagsters were thus driven away by her and the K.C.R. Inspector was rescued. She was later led to the restaurant car for a rest, where the Inspector told of her story of her life. "If not driven by livelihood, I would not have joined K.C.R. as an inspector! In H.K., when an inspector encounters gangsters during the course of her duties, even if she is molested she still has to wear smiles and cannot afford to offend them, or she would be fired, or even be killed," The inspector also told them that after duty, she had to be a private tutor to earn extra money to supplement family income. lier income plus her father's was barely sufficient to keep the family.
