MEETING WITH MR SUNAO SONODA, FOREIGN MINISTER OF JAPAN
ESSENTIAL FACTS
1.
Mr Sonoda.
There are no bilateral issues to raise with
The Secretary of State may wish to bring him
up-to-date on Rhodesia.
2.
Since his stopover in London on 18 July and his tour of African countries, Mr Sonoda has also visited Central and South America in August (Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile,
Brazil, Venezuela).
3.
There will be a general election in Japan on
7 October.
reshuffle and Mr Sonoda replaced.
This is likely to be followed by a Cabinet
The Lord Privy Seal
proposes to visit
to visit Japan in early December (probably 2 - 6
December). The Government will have other opportunities to make contact with the new Japanese Ministers when Lord Trenchard visits Tokyo at the end of October and Mr Nott early in the
New Year.
