UK RESETTLEMENT PROGRAMME OF INDO-CHINESE REFUGEES

POINTS TO MAKE

Admissions

1. As far as Malaysia and Thailand are concerned, we expect

to have admitted by the end of this month almost all of the

'1500' quota announced by the last Government. As for Hong Kong, we expect to have admitted all of the '1500' quota,

and about 500 of the new '10,000!quota.

2.

We have in addition to those from these quotas also

admitted over 1500 refugees rescued by British ships in the

last year (eg 'Sibonga' and 'Roachbank').

3. We aim to admit a further 1000 refugees from Hong Kong

in November and December, possibly more, depending on the

rate of movement out of reception centres into permanent

housing. We are anxious to receive refugees here as quickly

can but this is dependent on the rate at which they

can be assimilated into the community.
