In 1978, 67,495 legal immigrants entered Hong Kong

from the People's Republic of China.

From 1 January to 18 September 1979, 54,056 legal immigrants entered Hong Kong from the People's Republic

of China.

An analysis of the figures for this year's arrivals up to 14 September shows that the percentage of refugees who began their journeys from North Vietnam was 62.5%. Again, precise statistics for those now in camps are not

available.
