GENEVA MEETING ON INDO-CHINA REFUGEES: STATEMENT
POSSIBLE PARLIAMENTARY
1. The Minister of State discussed yesterday afternoon with the Lord Privy Seal the possibility of an early Parliamentary statement on the outcome of the meeting held in Geneva from 20-21 July. I understand from Mr Blaker that the Lord Privy Seal agreed that there would be advantage in such a statement. I should be grateful to know if the Secretary of State would wish to make a statement in the House of Lords, or if he is unable to do so if he would like Lord Trefgarne to make the statement. Mr Blaker would speak in the House of Commons
2.
The Lord Privy Seal and Mr Blaker recognise that there may be difficulty in fitting in a statement to the tight Parliamentary timetable in the last week before the recess. However they consider we have a good story to tell.
3. The text of a statement and supplementaries could be ready for Ministers to consider by midday, if it could be done this
afternoon.
