Irish organization CONCERN to assist UNHCR programmes in South East Asia

Mr. Poul Hartling, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, announced today that CONCERN, an Irish humanitarian organization, will place a qualified professional team at the disposal of UNHCR within the latter's programme of assistance to Indo-Chinese refugees in South East Asia. CONCERN, with support from the Emergency Relief Fund of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, will provide a short-term mobile multi-disciplinary team which will include a public health doctor, nutritionist, an engineer (water, sanitation etc.), a social welfare expert, an educational/vocational expert and a logistics officer.

The team will be seconded to UNHCR for three to four months for the purpose of establishing common standards of health and well-being among the refugees living in camps. It is expected that after preliminary missions and preparations have been completed the team will begin in early September and complete its work by the end of the year.
