His Excellency General Kriangsak Chomenan

for my part, I am urging our Prime Minister to accept this responsibility. I am sure that you yourself, with your strong humanitarian views, will avoid taking any steps to force the refugees back into Cambodia unless such action is absolutely unavoidable, and I write this letter to you as one who I am sure you know is a great friend of Thailand and a respectful but warm admirer of yourself.

(SGD.) HARTLEY SHAWCROSS

P.S. The charming picture which you sent me now occupies an honoured place in my home and has been much admired.

I have sent the book itself through your Embassy in the Diplomatic bag.
