With your letter of 27th June to Roger Facer you enclosed a copy of a letter which the Prime Minister had received from Peter Fry MP, together with one from one of his constituents, Mr Michael Reynolds, suggesting that HMS ARK ROYAL might be used as a floating home for Vietnamese refugees. The Prime Minister asked the Defence Secretary to reply to Peter Fry on her behalf.

I enclose a copy of the reply which Mr Pym has now sent to Mr Fry.

I am sending a copy of this letter and of Mr Pym's to Stephen Wall in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office whose officials were consulted on the wording of the final paragraph of Mr Pym's letter.
