CABINET 19 JULY 1979 : INDO-CHINA REFUGEES

Α

1.

The Indo-China refugee problem was last discussed in

Cabinet on 12 July. It was then agreed that the Secretary of

State and Lord Privy Seal should make statements to both

Houses announcing the Government's decision to accept an

additional 10,000 refugees from Hong Kong and to contribute

a further £5 million to UNHCR operations in South East Asia.

These statements were made on 18 July.

2. The Secretary of State wishes to report to Cabinet on

19 July,

on this and on the prospects for Geneva. I submit

a Speaking Note.
