establish a close working relationship with the Hong Kong Govern-

ment, as was shown most notably by the visit of the Governor of

Hong Kong to Peking in harch as an official guest of the Chinese

Government. Chinese leaders have gone out of their way to stress

the importance to them of maintaining confidence in Hong Kong,

and have emphasised that investors need have no fears about the

future of their investments in the Territory.
