Thank you for sending me a copy of your letter (CR 12/4821/29) of 11 May to Chancery, Tokyo.

2. The Secretary of State will be receiving the Japanese Foreign Minister here next week. The subject of refugees may well come up and we are providing the Secretary of State with appropriate briefing taking account of Japan's recent decision to admit 500 refugees and the need for resettlement places to be made available elsewhere(including in Japan) for Vietnamese refugees presently in Hong Kong.
