We have seen press reports of groups being directed back into territory controlled by forces loyal to Pol Pot, where their lives could be endangered. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has made representations to the Thai government aimed at getting them toallow the refugees to stay. We hope that the Thai authorities will heed his appeals.

The suffering of the Cambodian population, previously oppressed by the Pol Pot règime, cannot be measured. Even Cambodian spokesmen cannot hazard a guess at the numbers who have perished. There must now be a real danger of famine in many areas.
