ET. OPIA PROSTHETICS PROGRAMME:

-

The ICRC has recently started a prosthetics programme at a Rehabilitation Centre near Addis Ababa, to provide artificial limbs to victims of the conflicts in Eritrea and the Ogaden. This is the first of a series of such programmes to be set up by the ICRC throughout Africa. It is hoped that after an initial period of about three years, it will be possible to hand over the running of the programmes to local personnel. On behalf of the ICRC, the BRCS has recruited a British physiotherapist, who flew out to Ethiopia last week to join the prosthetics team. The Society is contributing £5,000 from the Africa Conflict Appeal Fund towards this project.

BOLIVIA FLOODS:

During the last month, severe flooding in many areas of Bolivia has left many thousands of people homeless and has caused destruction to roads, bridges, and crops. Delegates were sent in from the League and neighbouring National Societies to help the Bolivian Red Cross with the relief operation and an appeal was launched. The BRCS sent £1,000 for local purchases of relief supplies:
