INTAKE TO BRITAIN OF REFUGEES FROM INDO-CHINA: THE 1,500 QUOTA

I attach a copy of Ir Simpson-Orlebar's minute of 21 March to Mr Murray and Mr Cortazzi about the Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong who are awaiting resettlement elsewhere. I also attach a copy of Mr Murray's comment of 22 March. I shall be taking action on the points made in sub-paragraph A of Mr Murray's minute. May I leave it to you to follow-up with the Home Office the point made in sub-paragraph B, namely that quotas of 250 each from Malaysia and Thailand should be filled before going back to Hong Kong to select the remainder from there 2
