Will consider applications from all those in Hong Kong, who have connexions with France.
Netherlands
Dutch accepting 500 overall from South East Asia during 1979.
If
the UNHCR included some from Hong Kong, in that figure, the Dutch would have no objection.
Canada
300 or 400 to be taken from Hong Kong plus any from the "Huey Fong" who have close relatives in Canada.
New Zealand
Expect to
• New Zealand will take 600 from Malaysia and Thailand. admit from Hong Kong only family reunification caseg. New Zealand policy, however, is being kept under review.
Australia
Will be taking 200 from Hong Kong. They may be able to make a further offer at an unspecified future date.
Japan
Still considering our request but immediate reaction was that
permanent settlement in Japan is out of the question.
FRG
Offered to take 350 from Hong Kong in addition to the few family reunification cases still in the pipeline. FRG may offer further
help in the future.
Belgium
Sympathetic to problem. Still considering our request.
Brazil
Unlikely to be able to help but reconsidering the mutter.
Italy
Considering the matter.
