The Master received a communication from his agents in Taivan (for details see Annex C).

A doctor was put on board HMS Beachampton to examine sick refugees who were transferred from the "Huey Pong". 5 patients were taken to hospital.

A further 3 days supply of rations was delivered to the ship.

30th December, 1978

(a) A sick baby was transferred to hospital with his

mother.

31st December, 1978

No developments.

1st January, 1979

(a)

A 3-year old child was taken to hospital.

(b) 200 items of warm clothing collected by members of the

public were delivered by helicopter to the ship.

(c)

After dark a radio message from the ship reported that a man was dangerously ill. Sea conditions prevented his transfer to a launch or Gemini. Before a helicopter could be tasked it was reported that the man had died.

2nd January, 1979

(a) Rations for 3 more days were delivered to the ship.

(b) The ship's water tanks were refilled.

(c)

5 patients were retumed to the ship from hospital.

(a)

The body of the man who died during the previous night was removed from the ship by helicopter amd taken to a public mortuary for post mortem.

(e)

The master, a Vietnamese doctor and 2 medical personnel from the ship were taken on board HMS Monkton. The Master was again advised to continue his voyage to Taiwan. The doctor and medical personnel were interviewed by an RAF doctor. interview is at Appendix 3.
