THE NEW ZEALAND PROGRAMME

You will have seen a copy of Iain Orr's letter (from Hong Kong) to me of 28 February about the New Zealand government's expectation that some 1,500 Indo-Chinese will be resettled in New Zealand by the end of March 1980. following up the Deputy High Commissioner's call on the MFA on 23 January (your telegram number 27), we should be grateful if you would take an early opportunity, if you have not already done so, to ask the New Zealanders to give sympathetic consideration to accepting Indo-Chinese refugees from among the growing numbers arriving in Hong Kong.
