HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE ON INDO-CHINESE REFUGEES: 14 FEBRUARY
During the Debate on Indo-Chinese refugees in the Lords
on 14 February, Lord Goronwy-Roberts undertook to provide
answers to the following questions:-
2.
i. Lord Elton asked (Col 1382) whether the quota of
1,500 Vietnamese refugees (whom the Home Secretary
recently decided should be admitted to Britain over
the next 12-15 months) would be subtracted from the
overall intake of immigrants in that period;
ii. Lord Segal asked (Col 1376) for the figures of Indo-
Chinese refugees accepted for permanent settlement
by other countries;
iii. Baroness Vickers asked (Col 1372), with regard to the
refugees in camps in Indo-China, what contact the
Government had had with the Governments concerned
to see whether there was a possibility of allowing
the British Red Cross or the International Red Cross
to go in and see what the conditions are. Lord
Goronwy-Roberts said he had no record of complaints
received from voluntary agencies on this score but
that he would look into the matter.
I submit draft letters to Lords Elton and Segal and to
