SPE KING NOTE

1.

The House debated the problem of Indo-Chinese refugees

on 15 December.

2.

As my honourable Friend, the Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, said in reply to a question on 16 January, the Government fully support the Hong Kong Government's generous and humane attitude towards refugees from Vietnam.

3. My right honourable Friend, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, announced on 17 January that the Government intended to accept an additional 1,500 Vietnamese refugees for resettlement in this country, including

1,000 from among those who have been given temporary refuge in Hong Kong. We have also approached other governments

to encourage them to do more to reduce the burden on Hong Kong.
