Mr. Blaker: Yes. Like all aspects of our work abroad this is regularly re- viewed.

South Africa (Foreign Minister)

26. Mr. Eldon Griffiths asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will make a statement on his recent talks with the South African Foreign Minister.

Mr. Lucé: Mr. Pik Botha passed through London on 17 October and calls were arranged at his own request. He was received by my right hon. and noble Friend, and my right hon. Friend, the Prime Minister. Various matters of con- cern to South Africa, including Rhodesia, were discussed. . . .

Advisory Committee on Rhodesian Travel Restrictions

27. Mr. Philip Holland asked the Lord Privy Seal when he proposes to wind up the advisory committee on Rhodesian travel restrictions.

Mr. Luce: The advisory committee on Rhodesian travel restrictions, which was set up to advise on the administration of policy in this field, including measures under article 12 of the Southern Rhodesia (UN sanctions) Order 1968, will have completed its task as soon as sanctions

are lifted.

Mr. Parry asked the Lord Privy Seal what objections he has received from the People's Republic of China towards social progress in the fields of housing, welfare, education, labour and civil rights in Hong Kong, particularly in the New Territories.

Mr. Blaker: None.

Mr. Parry asked the Lord Privy Seal if he is satisfied with the attempts of the Governor of Hong Kong to stamp out corruption in the public service in Hong Kong.

Mr. Blaker: Yes. Syndicated corrup- tion has virtually been eradicated in Hong Kong but the Governor is deter- mined that this should not lead to com- placency. The fight against all forms of corruption is being pursued vigorously.

Mr. Parry asked the Lord Privy what is the total amount spent by Hong Kong Government on spons trips for Members of the Hong Kong ernment, including air fares, hotel other expenditure, over the past five to the latest available date.

Mr. Blaker: The total amount by the Hong Kong Government fr April 1974 to date is Hong Kong d 549,071.

(2) if he will meet a delegation o ted members of the Hong Kong council now on a visit to the Kingdom to discuss the democra form of the urban council.
